Nuts and Bolts of Nonfiction: A Tool Kit for Building Better Readers and Writers is a literacy program designed to develop your students’ ability to read, comprehend, and write nonfiction. In Nuts and Bolts of Nonfiction, students read, interpret, analyze, and evaluate nonfiction materials. They then use those same materials as models for their own nonfiction writing, focusing particularly on considerations of purpose, style, organization, and use of language.
Created for students who are reading at grade levels three through six, Nuts and Bolts of Nonfiction addresses concerns for instructional accountability and student achievement required of any literacy program.
Nuts and Bolts of Nonfiction is a response to extensive research that clearly indicates the need for greater attention to teaching nonfiction in the intermediate grades.
Unlike other literacy programs that focus more attention on reading than writing, Nuts and Bolts of Nonfiction places equal weight, and in some cases more weight on writing, providing students with intensive instruction in and opportunities to experiment with many different kinds of nonfiction writing. |
